Our Mission

IFORA connects, supports and strengthens local African initiatives by building resilient community-based institutions. Through its Innovation Hub and partnerships rooted in local contexts, IFORA builds integrated ecosystems that connect infrastructure, entrepreneurship, knowledge, and community leadership. In doing so, IFORA promotes sustainable social, economic and cultural development by supporting entrepreneurship, capacity-building, knowledge exchange and collaborative solutions.

We envision strong and self-reliant African communities supported by institutions led from within. These institutions drive sustainable development through collaboration, innovation and local ownership, enabling inclusive, locally self-sustaining economies. They create lasting impact in areas such as food production, energy access, environmental sustainability, digital inclusion and community development.

Our Story

Where It All Began

IFORA was founded on the belief that lasting change begins with strong local institutions. Across Africa, communities are rich in ideas, leadership and initiative, yet often lack the structures, resources and partnerships needed to sustain long-term impact.

IFORA was created to bridge this gap. Rather than implementing isolated projects, IFORA takes a system-level perspective, focusing on scalable hubs that connect infrastructure, entrepreneurship, knowledge and community governance.

By working alongside communities, diaspora networks and partners, IFORA supports development driven by local actors and focused on long-term impact.

Why IFORA

A Different Approach to Development

Across Africa, many initiatives are driven by strong local commitment, creativity and resilience. Yet too often, these efforts remain fragmented, under-resourced or dependent on short-term external support.

At the same time, traditional development approaches have shown their limits. Projects are delivered, but lasting structures are not always built. As a result, impact can fade once funding ends.

IFORA takes a different approach. Rather than focusing on delivering isolated projects, IFORA works to strengthen locally led institutions and organisations and structures that are rooted in communities, capable of growing independently and able to sustain impact over time.

We do this through a structured, community-driven process: starting with listening, trust-building and local assessment, testing and refining solutions through pilot activities, and supporting the development of an Innovation Hub as a platform for long-term growth.

Through continuous community engagement, partnerships and capacity building, IFORA helps transform local initiatives into resilient institutions. Our goal is not to act on behalf of communities but to help create the conditions in which they can lead, grow and sustain their own development.
