Our Story
Why IFORA Was Created
Africa is home to countless communities with the knowledge, resilience, and ambition to create lasting change. Yet many continue to face structural barriers that limit their ability to realise their full potential. These challenges are often rooted in complex historical legacies, unequal access to opportunities, and structural constraints that have limited community capacity over generations.
At IFORA, we believe that sustainable development cannot be achieved through short-term interventions alone. Lasting change requires strong local institutions, empowered communities, and collaborative ecosystems that enable people to shape their own future.
Rather than replacing local leadership, we strengthen it. Rather than creating dependency, we invest in capacity. Rather than implementing isolated projects, we help build the institutions, partnerships, and innovation ecosystems that allow communities to continue developing long after individual programmes have ended.
To achieve this, IFORA develops Innovation Hubs as its flagship implementation model: community-based platforms that connect institutions, entrepreneurship, knowledge, infrastructure, and local leadership into sustainable development ecosystems.
Through collaboration, entrepreneurship, knowledge exchange, and locally led innovation, IFORA connects African initiatives, communities, and partners to create sustainable social and economic impact across the continent.
